Science seems to be about finding the rules behind a phenomenon. It doesn’t seek to answer why it is so, as that is a question that is more philosophical in nature. But in finding the rules, it could hold the clue of answering why.
Did scientists like Einstein seek to answer why something was the way it was, rather than just finding the rules? Finding out the why seem to me a more powerful method of laying out the principles and therefore the rules.
But what if there was no why, or the why did not relate to the rules? For example, we play card games to amuse us for a while. But do the rules of different card games reflect the principle? What if the underlying why had nothing to do with the rules that we can observe?
