I started a new role in my job this week. It will involve the nitty-gritty administrative work of writing grant proposals for scientific research, and of setting up a formal group of researchers at a university. I have a tall learning cliff to climb, since I was the one to get plenty of support to do my work – now I am the support. I hope I can find a way to just fly up that cliff, as I already have an application due in two weeks! I began with asking the 6 essential questions that I learnt in primary school: what, why, where, when, how, & who.
This role will be for 5 months, i.e. until the end of 2012. My normal job is being a scientist, and my research will have to slow down for the rest of the year. However I believe this is a very good opportunity for me, to see how things work behind the scenes in a university.
